Breakthrough thought – Madness or Insight???? Is Microsoft in trouble?

March 25, 2009

Symbian does everything on my Nokia E71 Mobile phone that windows does on my laptop. Is Microsoft even aware of how quickly life could change?

Just thinking about this gave me a high. What an opportunity! What do you think?

I think a time will come when we will have mobility platforms, and the line between laptops and mobile communication devices will blur.

Apple, Google, Microsoft and even Linux are well positioned because they have a presence on both as of now.

Symbian is the odd one out. If they’re forward-looking, then they have to be considering this. And this is all guess-work. I’m not even a techie. But it could happen!

Well…Apple & Microsoft did something similar, but the approach was the other way round…take the computer OS and scale it down a bit to power mobiles.

I thought about it too. And now with Symbian from Nokia, and Android for Google, once you and i get comfortable with those OS, if someone offers me a laptop OS based on either, I would have had enough proof of concept to try it out. In fact, in my experience Symbian is a far more stable and robust OS than MSWindows Mobile.

      Movement the other way!

That is the reason why the Nokia ads say “Is this what computers have become?”

Truly, computing is going to see a big shift and move right into our palms. I have always called mobiles as “My Own Personal Jesus Christ”!!

I’m wondering what if Symbian just decides to beef up their OS a bit and offer it for the laptop?

Technically Ppssible but requires a lot of investment in making a successfull OS for a desktop computing environment.. what made windows a big hit in this century is the whole amount of application programming aides which MS made possible thru .Net and other MS stuff and that is why windows could compete with more bigger and stable OS’s like UNIX / Mainframes etc. Not sure if Nokia / symbian have the ambitions to become a Desktop s/w provider given that they will have enough to fight for within the mobile space given MS, Apple and Google catching up fast.
What i am looking forward to is a lot of free Apps on Demand on my mobile courtsey the OS war !!
